Ma, the website's Chinese ... in Beijing. And I hate to think what shipping, Customs, GST, rego, taxes, insurance, compliance, AQIS etc. etc. would do to that price ... if "they" even allowed the bike in the country in the first place. Oh, and they could be illegal clones, too, of course. (See, for example, the "HiPhones" at http://www.lightinthebox.com ... also in Beijing.)

Actually I rang a friend (yes i have 1!) who works for a freight company that deals with this sort of stuff and she said:- "Duty is Free if under 800cc engine, otherwise calculated at 5% of the FOB Value (Value of the item at place if export) GST is calculated at 10% if the CIF value (cost of the item at place of export, plus cost of freight and insurance) + duty payable. Import approval is required (attached). It is best to get the approval prior to shipping. If the motorcycle is crated, or packaged with wooden articles, AQIS inspection or treatment may be required." So if they are the real deal (??) it could be worthwhile |

Yeh lots of issues with any bikes from 1989 onwards, the govt changed the rules to protect local auto makers and it flowed onto bikes as well. You pretty much have to live with your new bike overseas for 12 months now to get it in ... so much for the FTA. Heres an example of the ripoff in Australia by HD: M109 in US IS 14.5K, here about 19k Fat Boy in US 15K, here 28k plus and a 3 month wait Yes I know the Yen has been artificially kept low by the Japs, but is still illustrates the significant disparity |
