Anaheim is on its second seven-game winning streak of the season as it continues to add to its NHL-leading point total. A matchup in Toronto with a Maple Leafs team thats also on a roll isnt an ideal place for the Ducks to continue their Canadian swing. Anaheim has won only three times in Toronto since joining the NHL, and in tonights visit will take on a Leafs squad looking to extend its season-high winning streak to six. Viewers in the Maple Leafs region can watch the game live at 7pm et. on TSN4. Toronto (18-9-3) has had no trouble scoring during its win streak. The Maple Leafs had at least three goals for the fourth time in those five games Sunday, beating visiting Los Angeles 4-3 in a shootout. They blew a 2-0 lead and needed a goal from James van Riemsdyk at the 8:49 mark of the third period to send the game to overtime, and Joffrey Lupul had the only goal in the shootout. We think this groups got more to give, coach Randy Carlyle said. We think we still have some areas we definitely need to clean up and work on. And were going to continue to be a work in progress, I think as every team is. Toronto has won four straight and eight of nine at home, where it owns the most wins in the NHL at 13. The Leafs are 12-2-1 with four ties on their own ice against Anaheim, which is tied for the most road victories in the league. We were excited about yesterdays game to measure ourselves against the champs, Lupul told the teams website. We have to look at Anaheim the same way; its a team that is having success year in and year out. A lot of really skilled players and we look at it as another challenge and measuring stick for us. The Leafs will start Jonathan Bernier in net after James Reimer backstopped the team over the Kings on Sunday. The Ducks (21-6-5) also won seven in a row Oct. 11-24 and are undefeated this month. They opened a five-game trip against teams located in Canada with a 4-2 win over Edmonton on Friday and a 4-1 victory the next night against Winnipeg. It was Anaheims third game in four nights, and the last three contests of this trip will also be played in four nights. The Ducks are in the midst of playing seven of eight on the road, where theyve won four straight and are 11-3-2. To come in and play like we did, Im really proud of the guys tonight, said coach Bruce Boudreau, whose team arrived in Winnipeg at 3 a.m. Good depth, good resiliency, want to win. All of those things. They think when they go out there every night they should win, and when they play hard enough they usually do. Ryan Getzlaf had a goal and an assist, Jakob Silfverberg, Nate Thompson and Andrew Cogliano also scored and Frederik Andersen made 27 saves. Andersen has been in net for each win this month as the Ducks have averaged 3.71 goals. Getzlaf has four goals and 10 assists in the last eight games and fellow center Ryan Kesler has scored four times and added two assists in the past five. They are first and second on the team with 33 and 24 points. (Getzlaf) is stepping it up, Boudreau said. He and Ryan Kesler are taking the bull by the horns. Theyre leading in a positive direction. When those two guys are on top of their game, it makes it really good on us. But after winning their first five games by a combined score of 50-12, the wheels came off for the Canadians. First came a 4-1 loss to the Russians, which all but decided the gold medal. During the game, Canadian forward Jim Sandlak delivered a crushing hit along the boards on Alexander Semak, who flipped upside-down and landed head-first in the penalty box. But Semak had the last laugh, scoring three times in the Russian victory. The Soviets sealed the gold medal with a 4-3 win over Finland, while Canada dropped a 5-3 decision to the Czech Republic and settled for silver. Valeri Kamensky was the top Russian scorer with seven goals and 13 points, while defenceman Vladimir Konstantinov added six points, including a pair of goals from the point. Goaltender Evgeny Belosheikin, defenceman Mikhail Tatarinov and forward Igor Viazmykin were named to the tournament all-star team. Sandlak was named the tournaments top forward, while Shayne Corson and Sylvain Cote were Canadas representatives on the all-star team. The United States, meanwhile, made some noise by beating the Czechs and earning its first ever medal at the tournament - the bronze.
