Detroit, MI (SportsNetwork.com) - Jarome Iginla scored the decisive goal in the ninth round of the shootout as the Colorado Avalanche edged the Detroit Red Wings 2-1 at Joe Louis Arena. Nathan MacKinnon and Matt Duchene scored on Colorados first two chances in the tiebreaker, but the Red Wings stayed alive with goals from Gustav Nyquist and Tomas Tatar in rounds two and three. Detroits Petr Mrazek and Colorados Calvin Pickard then matched one another save for save until Iginlas goal to begin the ninth round. Pickard then made a right pad save on Brendan Smith to secure the victory. Pickard finished with 34 saves for the Avalanche, who have won back-to-back games for the first time since Nov. 22-25 and concluded their road trip at 2-0-1. They have played beyond regulation in four of their last five games, going 3-0-2 over that stretch. Mrazek, starting in place of Jimmy Howard (lower-body injury), made 22 saves for a Detroit team winless in its last six games (0-2-4). The Red Wings have totaled six goals during their current skid. The Rangers won their season-high sixth straight game and continued their home dominance against the Hurricanes, who have dropped eight in a row at Madison Square Garden.
