At the start of the game you'll be able to choose from one of four different pets, each of which has its own combat attributes. Timber provides a 5% bonus to damage whenever he's happy, while Precious gets a +10 bonus to Dexterity, and a 5% bonus to Dodge. Guapo the turtle gets a +10 bonus to Strength, and a 5% boost to his movement speed when happy. Note that you'll be able to acquire new pets, with their own unique bonuses as you play the game. You'll have to level them up separately, so it's a good idea to find one you're happy with and stick with it for the long-run.
Players will also be able to choose a pet at the start of the game. It follows the player around, and comes with its own attributes and skills. In Arcane Legends, pets are collectible and cute, even alien as most of the game has a sort of sci-fantasy feel. These pets do a few things besides make you look cooler. They help fight or heal, level up, and become stronger, grab loot, and smash objects that might contain goodies. They also they need to be fed and cared for. It's sort of a Pokemon-lite system, a good balance of whiny pet mechanic and healthy combat partner.
While the game may play similar to their first title, Pocket Legends, I personally enjoyed being able to be human, and not a fuzzy bi-pedal animal with a bow this time around. As a huge fan of this genre, and having played entirely too many titles in it, I have a pretty high set of standards. Arcane Legends, and any of the titles in this series really, do a fantastic job of bringing an MMO to portable devices. One of the major fall backs of non-local multiplayer gaming on mobile devices is the lack of inter-player communication; it’s hard to get a party started and get players to tackle challenges with.
In the world of MMORPG’s, Arcane Legends really has it all: multiplatform and crossplatform play, great graphics, intuitive and, most importantly, addictive gameplay. Creating an MMORPG on a mobile platform has not been an easy task, but Arcane Legends has really raised the bar in the genre. If you’ve been searching for a mobile MMORPG that doesn’t sacrifice any part of the gameplay, then Arcane Legends is a must.
