Post subject:  recall Ian Bell with a host of young

England have no need to recall Ian Bell with a host of young batting talent ready to step up, says Nasser Hussain. James Taylors retirement has opened up a spot in Englands middle order, while Nick Comptons place at No 3 could also be in jeopardy after his tough start to the county season.Bell, 34, has amassed over 7,700 runs in his 118 Tests but Hussain feels the selectors should look to the future when they pick the players to face Sri Lanka. Here is the XI Nasser would pick for the first Test I wouldnt go back to Bell as I think it would be a backward step, Hussain told Sky Sports News HQ ahead of Thursdays squad announcement.Bell has been a great player for England and he will do fine if he plays this summer, as Im sure Compton will, but if you go back then you are holding things up. National selectors Angus Fraser and Mick Newell discuss Englands possible squad for this summers Test series Youve got guys like James Vince, Tom Westley, Daniel Bell-Drummond, Alex Lees, Sam Robson and Tom Abell all getting lots of runs and you have to have an eye on the future. Its not an experimentation - its because I believe the lads Ive mentioned have a future in an England shirt and the sooner we get them in and around the team the better.Hussain believes Hampshire star Vince - who notched a hundred against reigning county champions Yorkshire earlier this season - should be handed a Test debut at Headingley. Nick Knight has called for England to bat Hampshires James Vince at three against Sri Lanka The former England captain would also like to see Jos Buttler recalled from his IPL stint with Mumbai Indians and take the wicketkeeping gloves, allowing the in-form Jonny Bairstow to bat at No 5.I think it is the right time for Vince, he said.A lot of comparisons are made to Michael Vaughan and while Im not sure about that just yet, he strikes me as a guy who could perform at the highest level. Nasser wants both Jos Buttler and Jonny Bairstow in the England side On Bairstow, who has plundered scores of 246 and 198 for Yorkshire this campaign, Hussain said: Hes been a run machine and getting his runs in excellent fashion so Id like to see him pushed up.I dont think England will go that way but I feel Buttler has unfinished business in Test cricket and if he cracks it coming in at No 7, he is a real talent.Thats not to say he hasnt done it - he has an 80 and two 70s - but there is much more to come.Hussain would not ditch Alex Hales from the top of the order, despite the Nottinghamshire right-hander averaging just 17 across his three Test matches against South Africa this winter. Warner knows where his off stump is and can see off the new ball if it is moving around, something Hales will have to learn. Nasser Hussain However, the Sky Sports pundit says Hales - a staple of Englands limited-overs sides - should look to Australia star David Warner as an example of how a naturally-aggressive player can flourish as a Test opener.Im not of the opinion that Hales should treat it as a one-day game as you have to keep the good balls out as a Test opener, added Hussain.People will say how Warner has come from T20 cricket and, yes, he smashes it really well - but he also has a very good technique. He knows where his off stump is and can see off the new ball if it is moving around, something Hales will have to learn. Former England captain Nasser Hussain wants Alex Hales to retain his place at the top of the order. Head to Sky Sports News HQ and Sky Sports digital platforms at 7am on Thursday for first news of Englands Test squad to play Sri Lanka. Then catch the three-Test series live on Sky Sports, starting with the first game at Headingley, from 10am, Thursday, May 19 on Sky Sports 2. Points was disqualified Friday from the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am for using a training device while waiting to play the 18th hole at Pebble Beach. .J. - Trying to learn and absorb the new West Coast offence being installed by new offensive co-ordinator Ben McAdoo, the New York Giants wrapped their final organized team activity Thursday before a three-day mini-camp next week. http://www.cheaptitansjerseysonline.com ... sey-online. At least 90 players who had college eligibility remaining are expected to enter the draft, shattering last years record number of 73. "Its a humongous number, so the first reaction is it makes you step back a little bit," said NFL Network draft analyst Daniel Jeremiah, a former scout with the Baltimore Ravens, Cleveland Browns and Philadelphia Eagles. . Manager Ryan Nelsen has confirmed Brazilian No. 1 Julio Cesar will be rested for Wednesdays first leg of the semifinal. That opens the door for Bendik, who started 33 games for Toronto last season. . Rooneys latest piece of football genius lost in the furore which now stalks David Moyes, and the man who gave the Manchester United striker his start as a 16-year old at Goodison Park back in 2002.WASHINGTON - The Washington Capitals dropped five in a row before putting together a winning streak that now stands at three. One of these days, perhaps the Columbus Blue Jackets will experience a similar reversal of fortune.Alex Ovechkin and Marcus Johansson each scored two goals, and the Capitals beat Columbus 4-2 on Tuesday night to extend the Blue Jackets skid to nine games.Braden Holtby stopped 24 shots, including all 11 in the third period, to help the Capitals reach a season high in consecutive victories. The game is all about momentum, Washington coach Barry Trotz said. The Blue Jackets know this too well. Unfortunately, theyre stumbling in the wrong direction.Columbus has been outscored 39-18 during an 0-8-1 stretch that began Oct. 24. The winless drought equals the longest in franchise history, set in December 2009 when the club went 0-7-2.Weve been doing good things every single game, but we have to find a way to win, centre Ryan Johansen said. We create opportunities for ourselves and hit a crossbar or miss the net or they make a good save. Well just look at the positives and try to build off that.Even though the Capitals took the lead for good on a goal by Johansson with 66 seconds elapsed, they never could pull away — even after Ovechkin scored twice during a nine-minute span of the first period to make it 3-1.It was a one-goal game before Johansson scored on a wraparound at 14:39 of the third period to clinch it.We showed a lot of character tonight, defenceman Mike Green said.Cam Atkinson and David Savard scored for the injury-plagued Blue Jackets, who cant help but wonder if every game during this stretch is a replay of the one that preceded it.Youve got to get that winning feeling back, defenceman James Wisniewski said. You get that here we go again attitude, but you cant think like that. The mind is powerful, and if you think bad things are going to happen, they will. The Blue Jackets played a seventh straight gamee without top goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky, who has a broken finger.ddddddddddddCurtis McElhinney started in his place and was pelted with 31 shots in falling to 0-5-1.Columbus was without injured forwards Brandon Dubinsky, Artem Anisimov and Mark Letestu. In addition, defenceman Jack Johnson completed a three-game suspension for an illegal check. Those remaining are trying their best to make up the difference.I dont think its a lack of effort, Wisniewski said. Its some kind of weird funk. I really dont have any answers. After being outscored 4-0 in the first period of their last game, a 7-4 loss to Tampa Bay, the Blue Jackets again struggled during the opening 20 minutes.Soon after Johansson scored his seventh goal of the season from the left side of the net, the Capitals went to a 5-on-3 power play. Ovechkin connected from the left circle with a shot that soared over McElhinneys right shoulder at 7:49.Columbus closed to 2-1 at 9:52 on a wrist shot by Atkinson off a faceoff in the Washington zone. But Ovechkin struck again at 16:04, taking a drop pass from Jay Beagle and beating McElhinney with a blast between the circles for his eighth goal. The Blue Jackets have been outscored 18-10 in the first period this season.Savard registered the lone goal of the second period with a shot that Holtby kicked into the net with the back of his skate during a collision with a teammate and Columbus centre Boone Jenner. But the goalie made up for it with a flawless third period.Braden had to give us a period, and he did, Trotz said. He bailed us out in the third. Hopefully, thats something that gets him rolling forward, something he can build his game on.Notes: Washington has won four straight at home against Columbus. ... The Blue Jackets are 1-7-1 when the opposition scores first. ... Nicklas Backstrom and Andre Burakovsky each had two assists for Washington. ... The Capitals have seven power-play goals in their last seven games. ' ' '
