Calgary coach Bob Hartley believes he can better prepare his club for a run at the postseason if he keeps it focused on achieving short-term goals. Winning more at home probably should be on the list. The Flames look to avoid a fifth defeat in six home games by winning a sixth straight meeting with the Edmonton Oilers on Saturday night. Hartley breaks down the season in seven-game segments, and Calgary (26-20-3) has bought into the notion that it encourages an playoff mentality as it heads into segment No. 8. It went 5-2-0 in the previous stretch after falling 1-0 to Minnesota on Thursday and holds the final Western Conference wild-card spot by one point ahead of Los Angeles. We always look at seven games, Hartley told the teams official website. Does it have an effect on the players? I dont really know. I think so. It seems to be working well. It keeps the guys fresh. Calgary will be playing the third in a seven-game stretch at home, where it has won just four of the last 11 after an 8-3-2 start. Center Paul Byron will try to help the Flames break out of that slump while ending his own. Byron hasnt scored in 28 games since netting a goal Nov. 20 against Chicago. The key is just trying to take the positive out of it and try not to mentally take myself down, Byron said. If you think youre not going to score youre not. I think its just a matter of time before one of them finally goes in. He isnt putting his own issues ahead of the club, though. Your goal is to win four and you win the (segment), Byron said. For us, weve had the playoff mentality since Day 1. Its a dogfight right now and were in playoff mode. We just have to go out there and win as many seven-game series as we can. Fellow center Joe Colborne has keyed Calgarys success against Oilers (13-27-9) this season. He had three assists in a 5-2 win Oct. 9, scored in a 4-1 win Dec. 27 and netted two goals in a 4-3 overtime victory Dec. 31. Edmonton coach Todd Nelson believes the Flames will be seeing a rejuvenated opponent this time around. The Oilers have won three of four after beating Buffalo 3-2 on Thursday behind a goal and two assists from Anton Lander. Every day were trying to make ourselves better and I think were improving in certain aspects, Nelson told the teams official website. Were ready to try to keep things going. Were on a bit of a run here, collected a few points over the last four or five games. Its a good test for our hockey team. There may be some tension between these clubs stemming from the most recent meeting. Edmonton defenseman Keith Aulie received a two-game suspension for hitting Matt Stajan in the head in the final minute of the first period. Aulie will suit up for the first time since that contest. He plays an aggressive style, Nelson said. Thats what got him here to the (NHL), and thats whats going to keep him here. Winger Taylor Hall, who has missed the last two games with a bone bruise in his left leg, didnt practice Friday but is expected to travel to Calgary and could play. Ben Scrivens ended a three-start skid by making 18 saves against the Sabres and could be in net for the Oilers. The Flames may counter with Jonas Hiller, who is 10-2-1 with a 1.76 goals-against average in his last 13 against Edmonton. Flames Projected Lines Forwards Gaudreau - Monahan - Beartschi Bouma - Backlund - Jones Raymond - Jooris - Colborne Wolf - Stajan - Bollig Defence Giordano - Brodie Wotherspoon - Wideman Diaz - Engelland Goaltenders Hiller (starts) Ramo Oilers Projected Lines Forwards Pouliot - Nugent-Hopkins - Eberle Yakupov - Roy - Purcell Gazdic - Lander - Fraser Hendricks - Gordon - Klinkhammer Defence Ference - Petry Klefbom - Schultz Ollie - Fayne Goaltenders Scrivens (starts) Fasth . Hawkins severely sprained his left ankle while making a diving catch during training camp and went on injured reserve with a designation he could return midway through the season. He was back at practice Wednesday. . That was OK with him. He was just happy his team came away with two points. Letestu redirected Jack Johnsons shot from the point with 2:38 left, lifting the Blue Jackets past the Tampa Bay Lightning 3-2 on Monday night. http://www.authenticbasketballshopheat.info/customized/. Defenceman Tessa Bonhomme was among three players released from the team Tuesday morning along with defenceman Brigette Lacquette of Waterhen, Man. .com) - Matt Beleskey has helped give the Anaheim Ducks some scoring depth and hell look to stay hot on Wednesday night when his club hosts the struggling Philadelphia Flyers. . The New York State Supreme Court only partially dismissed the lawsuit, meaning the case could be headed for trial. The tour announced a year ago that Singh would be suspended for saying in a Sports Illustrated story that he took deer antler spray, which was believed to contain the banned substance IGF-1.La Quinta, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Bill Haas made a couple big birdies and saved some huge pars down the stretch on Sunday to shoot a final-round 67 and win the Humana Challenge by one shot over five others. Haas finished the week at 22-under-par 266 to win for the sixth time on the PGA Tour. This is Haas second victory at this event, which he also won back in 2010. Coming down to the par-5 last hole on the Arnold Palmer Private Course at PGA West, Haas needed a par to win. A bogey by the 32-year-old would have forced a six-way playoff, which would have tied a tour record. Haas was able to scramble for par and the win. Second-round leader and highest ranked player in the field Matt Kuchar finished with a 5-under 67 and he ended tied for second along withh Charley Hoffman (64), Brendan Steele (64), Sung Joon Park (65) and Steve Wheatcroft (67) at 21-under 267.dddddddddddd Rookie Justin Thomas, who shared the third-round lead with Haas, Erik Compton and first-round leader Michael Putnam, finished with a 3-under 69 and tied for seventh with Webb Simpson (64) and Boo Weekley (65) at minus-20. Compton could not make enough birdies down the stretch and he carded a 2-under 70 to finish tied for 10th at 19-under 269. Putnam (72) ended two shots behind Compton at 17-under 271, tying him for 15th. Defending champion Patrick Reed needed a big day on Sunday to successfully defend his title, but he fired a 1-under 71 to finish tied for 24th at 15- under 273 with Phil Mickelson (68) and four others.
