Hoylake, England - Mark OMeara withdrew from the British Open on Thursday due to an injured elbow. OMeara, who was told by doctors to rest after having an MRI last week, won the British Open at Royal Birkdale in 1998. That victory made OMeara the first player in his 40s to win two majors since Ben Hogan as OMeara also captured the title at the Masters that season. The 57-year-old decided to play in this weeks U.S. Senior Open at Oak Tree in Oklahoma. OMeara is a two-time winner on the Champions Tour, including a major victory at the Constellation Energy Senior Players Championship in 2010. He also won the Liberty Mutual Legends of Golf the same year. OMeara is also a 16-time winner on the PGA Tour, with eight of those wins coming in a four-year span from 1995-98. He will be replaced in the field by Ross Fisher, who has won five times on the European Tour with his latest one coming earlier this year at the Tshwane Open.
