Both Alex Jackson and William Contreras homered as the Braves took down the Mets by the score of 4-3.Sean Newcomb got the start on Tuesday and pitched two scoreless innings. While he did give up a pair of walks, the Mets were unable to do any damage and couldn’t even manage to get the ball out of the infield against him. Shane Carle came in after that and gave up three hits and a run in his inning of work to put the Braves behind 1-0. Here are Newcomb’s own words on how his first appearance of the spring went.Fortunately for the Braves, Alex Jackson came to the plate in the third inning and crushed a ball to left field with the bases empty off of Hector Santiago to tie the game up at 1. Patrick Weigel came in for the 4th inning. Weigel has undergone a long recovery from Tommy John surgery and , after some tweaks to his mechanics during his recovery, made his return to the mound first in the GCL late last year and then in instructs this fall. Weigel gave up a one-out double in the 4th before giving up a two-out RBI single to Braxton Lee and then getting taken out of the game.The next couple of innings were fairly quiet with a ground-rule double from Greyson Jenista being a notable exception. However, in the sixth inning, Ender Inciarte singled to lead off the inning and was replaced with pinch runner Izzy Wilson. After Izzy moved over on a grounder, Austin Riley hit a two-out RBI single and then William Contreras connected for an opposite field home run to give the Braves a 4-2 lead.The Mets would not go down quietly, though, as Sebastian Espino hit an inside the park home run to lead off the ninth inning off of Michael Mader to get the Mets back within a run.After a pair of groundouts, Mader allowed a walk and a single before retiring Dario Pizzano on a fly ball to end the game.
