The Dallas Stars have avoided arbitration with forward Antoine Roussel, inking the 24-year-old to a four-year deal. The deal carries an annual average value of $2 million. Roussel will earn $1.6 million in 2013-14 and will get a $200,000 raise in each subsequent year of the contract. "Since coming into the NHL, Antoine has been a very effective and hard player for opposing teams to compete against," said general manager Jim Nill in a statement. "His skill combined with his competitive grit create energy for our club that impacts our whole lineup." The French-born left winger scored 14 goals and added 15 assists in 81 games with the Stars in 2013-14. Originally signed as an undrafted free agent, Roussel has appeared in 120 career games with the Stars, scoring 21 goals and adding 21 assists. . The Padres made the moves before Fridays game at Washington. They promoted infielder Jace Peterson from Double-A San Antonio and right-hander Kevin Quackenbush from Triple-A El Paso. . Acclaimed by world football leaders but held in contempt by many football fans. Blatter should arrive at the Itaquerao stadium in Sao Paulo to watch host Brazil play Croatia confident that this tournament -- his fifth as president -- wont be his last leading the worlds favourite sport. .J. -- Having Ondrej Pavelec earn his 100th NHL win and seeing Mark Scheifele and Evander Kane break goal droughts were nice highlights for the Winnipeg Jets. .C. -- Authorities say the brother of Atlanta Falcons wide receiver Roddy White has been shot and killed outside a South Carolina nightclub. . -- Michigan coach John Beilein is willing to give Nik Stauskas a little leeway when it comes to shot selection.First, Detroit Red Wings forward David Legwand was battling with Pittsburgh Penguins star Evgeni Malkin, when Legwand decided to spear Malkin in the groin with the butt-end of his stick. Legwand was assessed a five-minute major penalty on the play (deep in the third period of a 4-4 game) and a game misconduct, he was later handed a $5000 fine from the league. Last night, Boston Bruins agitator Milan Lucic appeared to spear Montreal Canadiens forward Alexei Emelin in the same area in act on revenge for a hit by Emelin in the first period. Take a look at both videos and determine for yourself who was in the wrong; first, Emelins hip-check on Lucic, followed by what appears to be a spear in retaliation. Now, even TSNs Mike Johnson had trouble seeing whether or not Lucic truly made contact with Emelin. There are two theories here; either Lucic speared him, or Emelin has eyes in the back of his head and gave an Oscar-worthy performance in an attempt to draw a penalty. Ill be going with the former. Lucic escaped the play without being called for a penalty and after walking it off down the Canadiens hallway, Emelin returned to thhe game.ddddddddddddIn the end, the Canadiens defeated the Bruins in a shootout, snapping the Bruins win streak at 12 games.Lucic then proceeded to make things worse for himself after the game by calling Emelin "a chicken" for throwing a low (legal) hit on him. He then claimed to have simply "skated by" Emelin in the third period and that he did not throw a spear to what TSNs John Lu described as "a sensitive area."There has been no word yet on whether or not Lucic will be facing league discipline for the incident. However, whether or not Lucic is fined or suspended, when it comes spearing a player in the groin, or any area really, its obvious you cant do that. Lucic then calling Emelin "a chicken" for throwing an open ice hit, when he threw an apparent spear to an unsuspecting player? You definitely cant do that.A lesson for next time Lucic, take a number and extract legal revenge. Though, if youre going to take the cowards route, dont call the other player a chicken. Those in glass houses shouldnt throw stones... or spear another player in them. You cant do that. ' ' '
