As we approach the new season, there will be a number of players out to prove themselves. Some had disappointing seasons a year ago, others were plagued by injury woes. Here are six players who missed time because of injury to keep an eye on this season as they return to the court for the 2015-16 campaign.Amile Jefferson, Duke Blue DevilsHe was averaging a double-double (11.4 points, 10.3 rebounds) while shooting 68.3 percent from the field before the injury bug hit. Jefferson missed the final 27 games of the season, and the Blue Devils really missed his inside presence. The right foot fracture which sidelined him has healed, and he will have plenty of help with an outstanding recruiting class coming in.E.C. Matthews, Rhode Island RamsThe 6-foot-5 guard from Detroit was picked as a preseason first team All-Atlantic 10 choice. The dream of a super season came to a crashing halt when he suffered a major right knee injury in the season opener against American. If he can return to his prior form (he averaged 16.9 ppg. during 2014-15 season), the Rams will contend in the A-10.Przemek Karnowski, Gonzaga BulldogsThe Zags big man started the first five games last season before being plagued by a back injury. Coach Mark Few is happy to have the big man back, especially after Domantas Sabonis left early for the NBA. Karnowski received a medical hardship waiver from the WCC, a very good move by the league. He will score and rebound for Gonzaga.JaeSean Tate, Ohio State BuckeyesThe Buckeyes return their top six scorers from last season, including Tate. The 6-foot-4 player suffered a season-ending left shoulder injury which required surgery last February, and the team was 18-10 when he went down. Tate will get his share of points in Columbus this season.Phil Forte, Oklahoma State CowboysThe long-range shooter played in the first three games of the season before suffering an elbow injury that ended his campaign. Forte has 1,307 career points to rank 22nd on the Cowboys all-time scoring list. He will move up the list under new coach Brad Underwood this season.Dylan Ennis, Oregon DucksThe former Villanova player was granted an extra year of eligibility after playing in just two games last season. He recently played for the Ducks on the teams recent exhibition trip to Spain. In the final game of the journey, Ennis scored 10 points while dishing out seven assists. Coach Dana Altman will be happy to have him at his disposal. . LOUIS -- Roman Polak was celebrating even before Alexander Steen scored the winning goal in Saturdays 4-2 win over the Carolina Hurricanes. . Fellow centre Pavel Datsyuk remains out because of a concussion. Zetterberg has 11 goals and 19 assists for a team-high 30 points, and Datsyuk has a team-high 12 goals and 11 assists. . The 19-year-old Olsen played 34 games with the Kelowna Rockets of the WHL this season. In that time, hes recorded 17 goals and 17 assists with 36 penalty minutes. . During the athletes parade, the 23-strong Ukrainian team was represented by a lone flagbearer in an apparent protest at the presence of Russian troops in Ukraines Crimean peninsula. . -- Ohio States Urban Meyer has never had any issue acclimating to the biggest stages in college football. VANCOUVER -- The Vancouver Canucks added some depth on the first day of free agency, signing forward Brad Richardson and defenceman Yannick Weber. Richardson has 43 goals and 62 assists in 391 career games with Colorado and Los Angeles. He was a member of the Kings Stanley Cup-winning team in the 2011-12 season. He had a goal and five assists on 16 games for the Kings last season. Richardson welcomed the chance to play in Vancouver after a season in which he found himself at times a healthy scratch in Los Angeles. "To be honest I was super-frustrated," he told a media conference call. "It was really tough. They didnt give me a whole lot of feedback on why I wasnt playing either which was tough. "At the end of the year, it turned around. I got in there and started plaaying and played well.dddddddddddd" He has played all three forwards positions but says the Canucks want him to play his preferred centre role. "They made me feel like they really wanted me," he said of the Canucks. Richardson, who expects to play on Vancouvers third line, says his experience playing against the Canucks in the playoffs had shown him he was joining a tough team to play against. "Great goaltending, great forwards, great D. Theyve got everything," he said. Weber spent the last five seasons with the Montreal Canadiens organization. The Swiss blue-liner has five goals and 27 assists in 115 games with the Habs. He had two assists in six games last season. The Canucks also signed minor-league defencemen Jeremie Blain and Alex Biega. ' ' 'e United." Newcastle manager Alan Pardew said Remy will be "a great addition to the squad, he gives us strength and pace up front and Im sure hell bring plenty of goals." ' ' '
